Up to date on January 17, 2018 Glenn Waters moreContact Writer Character Novelty Firm, Inc. was a plush toy, puppet, and stuffed animals manufacture in Norwalk, wave Connecticut. From the nineteen thirties, to the 1980s, the Character Novelty Firm thrived. The company was founded by Cesare Mangiapani and Jack E. In June 23, 1936 Cesare Mangiapani patent a technique of making toy animal figures from tuft yarn balls with the assistance of Jack E. Levy who was a accomplice in the Character Novelty Company. They had created a way of forming plush animal figures that comprised the formation of a wire framework on the inside of the yarn material that will fill out the tender body of the plush animal. The inside was made up of of thick looped metal wire at one end of the fabric and forming two thick V-shaped wires within the inside of the plush animal construction. This gives the physique a steel framework for legs, arms and even a tail if desired or needed to complete the plush figure. This was performed in such manner that every limb has an elongated leg of wire that passing the thick “V” formed metal wires through the loop in the main area of the physique, then bending all the wires in such manner that every of the “V” shaped metal wires kinds the rear back end and the front finish of the legs of the plush animal determine. Within this design the primary mentioned wire can be utilized to type the tail of the plush animal, and thereof it can be looped finish along with the opposite looped portions of the plush animal’s body; and eventually the designer stringing the fibrous yarn material upon the framework so forming the gentle and loveable plush animal that can stand up and be bendable to any position the proprietor wishes of the toy.

I would use a great upholstery cleaner, the type that is available in a aerosol spray can, apply it gently, and rub in softly, let dry and repeat if crucial. Don’t over saturate would possibly damage the music box inside the little kitty. You could use a hand held blow dryer on a low setting to help re-fluff up her hair. She is gorgeous ..

Hi Angelia, occasionally a outdated Character Novelty Company Catalog is offered on eBay, and I have seen some Character Novelty Company “Mr. Bingle’s” go for good quantities on eBay as well. I may have so as to add some Character Novelty “Mr. Bingle” photographs to my assortment, as a result of right now I have none. Captain Kangaroo’s Bunny Rabbit was a particular ordered Character Novelty production with no tags, it was made for his show. So I might imagine that some of the primary Mr. Bingle’s might have been Character Novelty Firm prototypes for commercials, and television shows, they usually wouldn’t have Character tags on them, and can be very uncommon, and collectable.
Thank you Glenn,
Are there any photos or catalogs that you understand of from that era
We try to place the earliest made Mr. Bingle (late 1940’s) and we really can’t discover a lot on this area. Any footage could be vastly appreciated. We own one of the oldest ones made. There isn’t a tag to tell of a date. I’ve seen some that we consider are dated to 1950’s-1960’s and it has a tag with Characters, Inc Conn. that’s how I found this web site.
Have an amazing day!
Hi Angelia, I consider Mr. Bingle the Snow Man was made from the very late 1940s to the mid 1960s by the Character Novelty Firm from the unique designs of Emile Alline .. A few might need been made later as well .. Should you lived in New Orleans from the 1950s through the 1980s, you’ll know who the elf-like, snowman determine beside Santa Claus was. 🙂 Created in 1947 by display director Emile Alline, Mr. Bingle was figured prominently in the massive and elaborate yearly Christmas window display. Character Novelty Firm had both a puppet model, and a plush sleeping, and play pal, of the loved Mr. Bingle the Snow Man ..
